*The New York State Core Curriculum has been revised for grades PreK-8 effective September 2005. There are three instructional components in the core:
- Conceptual understanding
- Procedural fluency
- Problem solving
*(New York State Dept. of Education, Mathematics Core Curriculum) The new mathematics core has the following two strands:
Content Strands Number Sense & Operations Algebra Geometry Measurement Statistics & Probability
| Process Strands Problem Solving Reasoning & Proof Communication Connections Representation
|
The Attanasio and Associates Math Classroom Libraries have been completely reworked to integrate mathematics and literature while remaining true to the standards. They have been redesigned to support and enhance the conceptual understandings component of the new math core.
Books have been chosen that are directly aligned to the Content Strands and incorporate the Process Strands into interesting, in formative, storylines. A range of difficulty is provided that supports continued learning as the spring term curriculum moves to a higher level. All of the books in the library are engaging and deepen comprehension. They are colorfully illustrated to attract students and encourage them to read. Using content knowledge while discussing storylines, characters, or additional information will help your students see mathematics as a whole entity not just a series of skills and facts presented in isolation. The Attanasio & Associates Math Classroom Libraries reflect the latest research and thinking in the field of mathematics education!
